A silly thing that I was not aware of in Emacs all these days

adding ;; -*- mode:text encoding:utf-8 -*- for example, on the first line of a text file enforces encoding of characters.

It struct me only today, after having used Emacs for no less than three full years and been spoiled by its vastness.. Silly discovery it was for me today.
